Welcome to ScanX ("we", "our", or "the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a safe experience when you use our mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information.
Key Point: ScanX processes all data locally on your device. We do not upload your documents, images, or personal data to any external server.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Scanned Documents: Images captured through the camera or imported from your gallery for document scanning, including processed and enhanced versions.
- Business Card Data: Name, phone number, email, company, job title, address, and website extracted from scanned business cards via on-device OCR.
- ID Card Data: Name, ID number, gender, nationality, date of birth, and address extracted from scanned identification documents via on-device OCR.
- QR/Barcode Data: Content decoded from scanned QR codes and barcodes.
- PDF Files: Documents you create, compress, encrypt, watermark, or merge using our PDF tools.
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Device Information: Device model, operating system version, and app version for compatibility purposes.
- Usage Data: App feature usage patterns stored locally for improving your experience (e.g., scan history).
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect location data.
- We do not collect contacts or call logs.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or tracking cookies.
- We do not use analytics SDKs that transmit data to third parties.
2. How We Use Your Information
All data processing occurs entirely on your device. We use the collected information solely to:
- Perform document scanning, edge detection, and image enhancement.
- Execute OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to extract text from business cards and ID cards.
- Scan and decode QR codes and barcodes.
- Create, compress, encrypt, watermark, and merge PDF documents.
- Maintain your scan history and favorites for easy access.
- Store your app preferences and settings.
3. Data Storage and Security
- Local Storage Only: All scanned documents, images, extracted data, and PDF files are stored exclusively on your device's local storage.
- Database: Scan history and metadata are stored in a local SQLite database on your device.
- Encryption: PDF encryption features use AES-128 or AES-256 encryption standards.
- No Cloud Upload: We do not transmit any of your data to remote servers, cloud storage, or third-party services.
4. Camera and Storage Permissions
ScanX requires the following device permissions to function:
- Camera: Required to capture document images, scan QR/barcodes, and photograph business cards and ID cards.
- Storage (Read/Write): Required to save scanned images, PDF files, and access photos from your gallery.
These permissions are used exclusively for the app's core functionality and are never used for surveillance, tracking, or unauthorized data collection.
5. Third-Party Libraries
ScanX uses the following third-party libraries, all of which process data locally on your device:
- Google ML Kit (Text Recognition & Barcode Scanning): On-device machine learning for OCR and barcode detection. No data is sent to Google servers. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- OpenCV: Open-source computer vision library for image processing and edge detection. Fully offline processing.
- iText: PDF creation and manipulation library. All operations are performed locally.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties. The only scenarios where data leaves your device are:
- Sharing by You: When you explicitly choose to share a document, PDF, or scanned result using Android's share functionality.
- Saving to Downloads: When you explicitly save files to your device's Downloads folder.
- Exporting to Contacts: When you explicitly choose to save a scanned business card to your device contacts.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
- All data is retained on your device until you choose to delete it.
- You can delete individual scan records from the History screen.
- You can clear all app data through your device's Settings > Apps > ScanX > Clear Data.
- Uninstalling the app will remove all associated data from your device.
8. Children's Privacy
ScanX is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected within the app with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Your Rights
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over your information at all times. You can:
- View all stored data within the app.
- Delete any or all stored records.
- Export your data before deletion.
- Revoke camera or storage permissions at any time through device settings.
